Studio Policies, Expectations and Tuition
1. Regular attendance at lessons and good, consistent practice at home is expected. Please follow the practice guidelines of the studio as outlined below for optimum progress:
· Book 1 Students: 30-45 minutes per day with constant adult supervision (20 minutes for the first couple of months with a small child 3-5yrs)
· Book 2 Students: at least 45 minutes per day with adult supervision
· Book 3-4 Students: 50-65 minutes per day (if child is older than 10, they may start working on some things alone, especially review practice)
· Book 5 and above: 60+ minutes a day. 1- 2½ hours per day would be wonderful!
· Other considerations:
Below is a rough estimate of how your child should be progressing, according to studies. Of course, every child is unique and may progress faster or slower, but this is about what you can expect:
· 15-20 minutes practice a few times a week = 1 book every 4 years
· 15-20 minutes practice daily = 1 book every 2 years
· 30-60 minutes practice daily = 1 book every year
· 120 minutes or higher = 2 books per year!!!
· Book 1 is the exception, and will generally take longer than any other book!
2. Students should feel free to arrive 5 minutes early in order to take out their instrument and be ready to go by their lesson time. If there is a student before you, please get your instrument out in the waiting room.
3. Please attend all group lessons, recitals, and lessons. I understand that this is not always possible; however, all of these add to the quality of your child’s musical experience. They also add extra motivation to keep your child progressing. If you are unable to attend any of the scheduled events, please let me know ahead of time.
Tuition Policies and Rates
1. I will be implementing a yearly tuition structure as of January 2018 based on approximately 4 lessons per month
2. Tuition can be paid monthly, or at the beginning of the semester. If you are paying monthly, tuition should be paid at or before your first lesson of the month. If payment is not received by the 2nd lesson of the month, no further lessons will be given until payment is made.
3. Tuition will not be prorated except for new students who begin in the middle of the semester. Each student is guaranteed the specified number of lessons during the course of the semester; however, you are required to give prior notice if you will miss your scheduled time. No-shows will be counted against your lesson allotment.

· 2022
5. I hold regular group lessons for all my younger students. Group lessons are a chance to develop a wide variety of skills that we simply just don't have time for during the private lessons. They are aimed at making your child a more rounded musician. In group class we will cover ear training, music theory, music history, ensemble playing, concert etiquette etc. These group lessons will greatly add to your child’s success. Parents are encouraged to attend with younger children.
(Due to COVID, group lessons are not happening at this time, but I hope to resume as soon as possible)
6. Attendance at group lessons is STRONGLY encouraged. The tuition rate will remain the same regardless of whether or not you choose to attend group lessons. Group lessons cannot be made up.
7. Lesson Cancellation Policy: Each student will be allowed one ‘make-up’ lesson per semester. This means that if there is an illness, family emergency, scheduling conflict, etc. I will work with you to reschedule the missed lesson at a time that is convenient for both of us. Lessons should not be cancelled except for illness or emergency. If you need to reschedule more than one lesson in a semester, I will try to fit in a make-up lesson at my convenience, but cannot guarantee the lesson will be made up. If you are unable to come to this make-up lesson, no adjustments to tuition will be made. Please understand that you are paying for my availability during your scheduled time slot. Your cancellation often means extra hours of work for me, and I am not always able to make arrangements for you. A “no-show” (a cancellation with less than 6 hrs. notice) will never be made up, and tuition will not be adjusted. If I cancel a lesson and am unable to give you a make-up, your tuition will be adjusted or reimbursed for the following month.
8. Need-Based Scholarships: Please, Please, Please let me know if your family is experiencing any financial difficulty such as loss of job, etc. My primary interest is to see that your child has a positive experience with music and keeps progressing. I want to make things as affordable as possible while still providing for my own family. I am happy to accommodate temporary financial setbacks, especially for those who are meeting the practice requirements of the studio!

· Other considerations:
- Review is an essential part of good practice!
- All students should be listening between 30-60 minutes every day!!!! This is sooooo very important to your child’s progress and makes practicing far more effective. It also helps your child become more independent in their practice earlier.
- If you feel like you/your child are unable to meet these standards, please talk to me. Let me help you make a reasonable plan for your situation.
